It looks like comments are back. 'bout freakin time. ------------------------------------------------
Bitter show's Nancy P. the back of her hand. Man...she is scary. I wouldn't want to get on her bad side. That's why I give her pet causes my hard earned ca$h. You should too if you know what's good for you. ------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------
Ok...I'm bored. I've been doing IQ tests and Brainteaser tests. I know...I should be working. Anyway...I got them here. Yes...it's a commercial link. Yes the proceeds go to National Review Online. But it's a good cause and it's fun. I did find out that I have an IQ of 131. I guess Mensa would have to take me. Cooler was the brainteaser test which I managed 28 out of 30 which put me in the 99th percentile. Nice ego stroke for a Sunday morning. Go off and have some fun. See if you're as smart (or smarter) then Kin! I'll see about getting comments up and you can all tell the world how bright you are. ------------------------------------------------

Squawkbox, the folks who let you ignore my comments, seems to be out of order. This kind of sucks as I was looking forward to reading what all you wonderful people had to say. Anyway, let's just hope it'll be up again soon. Hope everyone had a good 4th o' July. ------------------------------------------------

Yes...it's official. Liberals are stupid. If you're a liberal...then you're dumb. Really...mind-numbingly so. Here's proof. Refute it if you can. Count 'em. 5 women. 1 man. 1 hottub. Lotsa beer. But he's a liberal. So he he has to try to convince everyone GW is evil. Tax cuts are evil. Until one of the wonderful young ladies clocks him. 15 stiches. I rest my case.
(Thanks Bitter...this one made my day) ------------------------------------------------

Say Something!
------------------------------------------------ Hey! It's Thursday, so that means it's time to look in on the Eminent Domain front. I've run across an interesting case in Kentucky. The Kentucky-American Water Co. is a privately owned water (duh) utility. It was recently purchased with a number of other water utilities by a German industrial conglomerate called RWE. From the time that the sale was first discussed the city has tried to work out a way with eminent domain to wrest ownership of the company and put it in city hands. The company on the other hand was happy to be bought-out. There seems to have been alot of back and forth with the company trying to forstall any condemnation which would open the way to the company being taken through eminent domain. The company is valuated between $150 and $350 Million dollars. The city offered $185 million and 20 year contract to current employees. The company refused the offer. Anyway, on July 1st the Lexington city council voted 9-6 to start with condemnation proceedings. Now...what makes this case interesting is the fact compelling public interest is a bit shady here. Not to me mind you. As if you couldn't have guessed I think public ownership of companies is stupid. The people of Lexington seem to be split on the matter. So it is possible to convince people of a compelling public interest angle here. Of course those people are fools, since as Bill Lear - Kentucky American's lawyer - said: "What the government has done is decided we want to throw the company out of town," Lear said. "So the message we're going to send to the rest of the world is one that foreign investment is not wanted in Fayette County. They can try to say whatever they want. I know from my involvment in those circles that's exactly the message they sent today."And a valid point it is. The only reason the folks in goverment in Lexington are doing this is for the feel good...'we own it and not a bunch of foreigners" points. So...if I may be blunt... They're a private company! They can do what ever the hell they want with their assets. If you don't like it...counterbid with a better offer. Otherwise shut up and go home. Timeline More stuff Even more stuff Say Something! ------------------------------------------------

Argh! Permalinks don't seem to be working...you'll just have to scroll around to find what you're looking for while I consider getting the heck outta Blog. ------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------ Ok...it's disagree with Jeff day again. Though we came to an understanding on the eminent domain issue [granted...we were pretty close to begin with and in the end he folded and agreed with tarring and feathering...] I doubt we'll end up on the same side of this issue. He takes umbrage at Senator Bill Frist (DR - TN) and his statements on the Lawrence decision. I've already commented on my issues with this ruling and I'll restate them. I don't think the government should have any say in people's sexuality. That's my moral judgement. Legally they can declare certain activities to be illegal whether or not you agree with said declaration. The Supreme Court certainly doesn't have the right to outright declare a state's laws to be null and void. There's that 10th Amendment thing-a-majig. Most states have either removed sodomy laws from the books or don't enforce them. That's their right as states in the union. The SCOTUS has basically said their is no such thing as federalism in this ruling. Anyway...that's neither here nor their in the present context. This is what Senator Frist had to say: I have this fear that this zone of privacy that we all want protected in our own homes is gradually - or I'm concerned about the potential for it gradually being encroached upon, where criminal activity within the home would in some way be condoned," Frist told ABC's "This Week." "And I'm thinking of - whether it's prostitution or illegal commercial drug activity in the home - ... to have the courts come in, in this zone of privacy, and begin to define it gives me some concern."And this is Jeff's response[or at least part of it]: So because same-sex relations are no longer illegal in some back-water states, this means that murdering or raping or molesting someone in your bedroom will suddenly be protected by the Supreme Court ruling? Frist tops-the-cake when he states that allowing two women to touch each other in their bedroom will open the door to legal murder in that same bedroom. See folks, this is where idiot conservatives (and also liberals) lose it; they get hysterical over nothing and blow it up to a fake issue to rally their troops.Jeff is generally very level headed about these things and I understand that this is a personal issue for him...but come on. He said nothing of the sort. And he's right for that matter. What is the logical conclusion of the "Right to Privacy" that can be found in the Penumbra of the Constitution? It is basically that I can do anything I want in the privacy of my own home. I think it is rather obvious that doing something physically harmful to someone else doesn't come under this rubrick. It does on the other hand, without much of a stretch, lead to legalized suicide. Why can't I kill myself in my own house? Why can't I take PCP in my own house? Why can't I do any other list of currently illegal activities in my own house, I have a "Right to Privacy" (yes...I'm using scare quotes...that's because I still can't find the Right to Privacy in the Constitution and until someone can show me where it says it clearly I'm going to assume it's a made up code for "you can do anything we deem is ok"). I'm not sure where the logical fallicy of Frist's statement lies. I think the Law of Unintended Consequences is going to kick some people in the nuts off of this one. Anyway...end rant. I still think y'all should vote for Jeff, even if I disagree with him. Say Something! ------------------------------------------------
Haven't blogged much in the last day, network issues. In related news I'm up to Flippery Fish over on the Ecosystem. Help me evolve! Link me! :)
